Common questions about congestion tax in Gothenburg
-
Congestion tax helps reduce traffic and improve the environment. It also helps pay for infrastructure projects.
-
You pay congestion tax when your car passes a toll station. This applies to cars registered in Sweden or abroad, and cars with dealer plates.
-
Motorcycles, emergency vehicles, diplomatic vehicles, military vehicles, buses weighing at least 14 tonnes, and some EC mobile cranes are exempt. If you have a parking permit for a person with reduced mobility, you can apply to the Swedish Tax Agency to exempt one vehicle.
-
You can see your tax decisions and estimated daily amounts in the Swedish Transport Agency’s online services.
-
You get an invoice at the end of the month. You can pay by direct debit or Bankgiro. The invoice can be sent as an e-invoice, to a digital mailbox, through EDI, or by post.
-
For vehicles registered abroad, the Swedish Transport Agency uses EPASS24 to identify owners, send invoices, and collect payments.
